Police: Man nearly shot after stopping man from hitting on girls
A man was arrested Sunday, accused of trying to shoot a man who stopped him from hitting on underage girls.
Delray Beach police said an officer heard a gunshot coming from the area of Southwest Ninth Avenue and Southwest First Street on Sunday and went to find out what happened. The officer found a man restraining Miguel Lazaro, 20, and heard people saying, "He just shot at us."
A man told the officer that he was at a gathering when he saw Lazaro hitting on his stepdaughter, who is underage, according to the arrest report. The man said he told Lazaro the girl was too young and "to move along."
Police said the man then saw Lazaro trying to pick up some other underage girls and confronted him again.
That's when the man told police Lazaro pulled out a gun. Police said Lazaro pointed the gun at the man's face and pulled the trigger.
The gun made three clicking sounds, and then there was a large "boom," police said. The alleged victim told police the gun malfunctioned in front of his face, and he felt air pass his face as the weapon fired.
Another man told police he "football tackled" Lazaro, who dropped his gun.
Police said when they examined the Smith & Wesson .32-caliber revolver, they discovered its serial number had been scratched off.
Lazaro was arrested on charges of attempted first-degree murder and possession of an altered firearm.
